Chapta Nyne is a Jamaican-born Dancehall/Reggae artist fusing the raw energy of 90s dancehall with today’s sound. With raspy, powerful vocals and motivational storytelling, his music bridges generations while staying raw and relatable. Born Robert McCalla, Originally from St. Thomas, Jamaica , a parish known for producing popular dancehall artists like Popcaan, Chronic Law, and Skillibeng, Chapta Nyne’s breakout motivational anthem, “Focus Like Telescope,” made waves internationally, encouraging listeners to remain focused on their goals. The track won multiple new artist radio competitions in New York, Florida, and Gambia, and peaked at #65 on the iTunes Reggae Chart in Mongolia. The music video featured popular Jamaican comedian Trabass, delivering a creative and comical take on perseverance.
That momentum led to the success of his follow up single, “Grandma Seh”, a heartfelt and visual-heavy single about the trials on the road to success, earning critical acclaim and charting globally, peaking at #8 on the iTunes Reggae Chart in Bermuda , #34 on the iTunes Reggae Chart in the USA, and #43 on the Apple Music Reggae Chart in The Solomon Islands. The music video starred Jamaican comedian Slick Whiteline, again using comedy to convey truth.
In 2025, Chapta Nyne released his biggest single to date, “Baby Mama Drama”, exposing what some men often endure, navigating life after a breakup, when children are involved. The song resonated so well that it has garnered over 2 million views on youtube. Over 1.2 million views stemming from the lyric video, and over a million views attributed from the cinematic music video, starring well known Jamaican Actor T V Boss, famously known for his feature in Busy Signal’s video, “Stay So”.
Recently, Chapta Nyne released a tribute song titled “Unbreakable Nation”, as a tribute to Jamaica’s resilience and unbreakable spirit, in wake of the Category 5 storm, Hurricane Melissa, that devastated many parts of the island. Though the song was created out of support, after knowing people who personally experienced loss, on the first day of release the song charted at #73 on the Apple Music Reggae Chart in the UK.
